A while ago a friend turned me on to these guys . The SCI thread got me thinking of other jam oriented people . For those who don't already know, they area Bay area instrumental, psychedelic, surf-rock band . Sort of Dick Dale meets Quicksilver . Sometimes I get Steve Kimock, Bill Frisell , feel . They can get pretty spacey . When they started they were more "surf", but have move more into a more "jazzy," "abstract" direction . Here are a couple of shows, if you want to check them out .

One problem I have with so many of the "jam-bands", is they are heavy on the "Shakedown" side of things, but rarely get into the "Dark Star" side , i.e. white boy funk, but little that is really glowingly psychedelic .
Any recommendations ?

i found out about Mermen on this board several years ago and while my interest has waned a bit, i still will listen on occasion, some excellent music here on the archive, and if by some miracle they decide to tour new england, i'll be the first one at the show and the last to leave
